Reshoring for sustainable pump production

The UK’s Apex Pumps has invested in domestic production, advanced machining, and renewable energy to improve sustainability and strengthen supply chains.

Sustainability and supply chain resilience are now central to how pumps are designed and manufactured. Across global markets, there is growing pressure to reduce environmental impact while continuing to maintain the reliability and performance expected in demanding industrial applications.

In response, many manufacturers are increasing investment in domestic production. Apex Pumps has invested in on-site renewable energy generation, including a 150kW solar array, which produced 175MWh of renewable energy in its first year. This contributed to a 37.8% reduction in grid electricity use and an overall 40% drop in CO2e emissions compared to a 2023 baseline.

These measures have received industry recognition, with Apex Pumps named Runner Up for Sustainability Initiative of the Year at the Made in Britain Impact Awards and Winner of the Sustainable Contribution for a Better World category at the BPMA Pump Industry Awards 2026.

Reshoring has also supported reductions in transport-related emissions by limiting the need for overseas sourcing. Combined with investment in modern facilities and expanded production space, this approach enables increased capacity without compromising product quality or impacting environmental performance.
