The UK is a world leader in offshore wind. In such a rapidly developing sector, constant evolution of health and safety practices is essential. G+, the health and safety organisation for the offshore wind sector, recorded 348 safety incidents in the UK during 2022.
Renewable energy leaders Ørsted wanted to develop a ground-breaking safety programme for everybody involved in the construction of Hornsea 2, the world’s biggest offshore windfarm, and create a safety legacy for the sector.
Ørsted partnered with innovators in safety leadership, Active Training Team Ltd (ATT), to build a cutting-edge learning centre in Immingham. Designed according to sound neuroscientific, psychological and learning theory principles, Thrive is a one-day, immersive safety leadership programme using multimedia, live drama and experiential learning to transform behaviours and attitudes.
Thrive is now being deployed as a dynamic learning resource by organisations across the renewables and related sectors. A new iteration of the Thrive programme is now supporting personnel working on projects’ onshore phases. Since its launch in 2020, Thrive’s revolutionary approach has significantly enhanced safety in the offshore wind industry: 93% of the 4,169 participants who have attended to date state that when it comes to safety, they see themselves as a leader.
