National Environmental Services Survey unveils key insights and urges collaborative action at Environmental Services & Solutions Expo

We are excited to announce the release of the report from the National Environmental Services Survey, a comprehensive examination of the nation’s most pressing environmental concerns. The survey’s findings, which highlight critical issues and opportunities in the environmental sector, will take centre stage at the upcoming Environmental Services & Solutions Expo (ESS) – the largest gathering of environmental professionals in the UK. The expo will be held on September 13-14 at the NEC, Birmingham.

The National Environmental Services Survey was conducted in close collaboration with experts and stakeholders from across the country. Through their valuable contributions, we have gathered extensive data, insights, and unique perspectives to gain a deep understanding of environmental challenges and drive effective solutions.

You can access the full report here.

Among the key findings of the survey, it is revealed that only 11% of environmental professionals believe that the Government will meet its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. This insight sheds light on the urgent need for accelerated action and collaborative efforts to combat climate change.

Additionally, the survey highlights greenwashing as the aspect most environmental professionals would like to change within the sector. This finding emphasises the importance of transparency and genuine sustainability efforts to build trust and create lasting environmental impact.

Furthermore, for the second consecutive year, image and perception have been identified as significant concerns within the environmental sector. The survey’s outcomes emphasise the need for effective communication and public engagement to shape positive narratives surrounding environmental initiatives.

Encouragingly, 80% of organisations surveyed either have or plan to implement a net-zero strategy. This demonstrates a widespread commitment to tackling the climate crisis and transitioning towards a greener, more sustainable future.

The survey also revealed that funding, rising cost and budgetary pressures, were prominent challenges facing environmental professionals today. This reflects current economic situation, rising energy costs against the backdrop of recovery post pandemic. Addressing these hurdles is crucial to ensure the continuity of environmental initiatives and drive meaningful change.

We invite environmental professionals, stakeholders, and the wider community to actively engage with the survey results at the Environmental Services & Solutions Expo. The event will provide a platform for like-minded individuals to connect, share best practices, and collectively shape the future of environmental services.

By leveraging the insights and knowledge gained from the National Environmental Services Survey, we can foster discussions, facilitate collaboration, and take significant strides toward achieving a greener, sustainable future.
